Food security will continue to be a challenge in 2023. Leading businesses in the food sector are innovating to make the food supply chain more sustainable and resilient. 

Our panel will focus on different areas of the food supply chain.

  • Marco Ferroni, Chairman of CGIAR System Board (from 2017-December 2022) and previously Executive Director of the Syngenta Foundation will focus on agricultural innovation.
  • Beatrice Conde-Petit is the Sustainability Officer at Bühler. Two billion people each day enjoy foods produced on Bühler equipment. She will focus on innovation in food processing.
  • Christian Nils Schwab is Executive Director, Integrative Food & Nutrition Centre (IFNC) at the EPFL. The centre is the interface between EPFL and the outside world for topics related to food and nutrition along the entire food value chain, from agriculture to food industry, catering and retailers. He will focus on stakeholders in the supply chain

Bios of the speakers
 

Marco Ferroni 

Marco Ferroni has wide-ranging experience accumulated during a career in corporate philanthropy, government, and multilateral organizations. He currently advises public, private, and social sector partners on agriculture, food systems and sustainable productivity growth. 

From 2007 to 2017, he was Executive Director of the Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture, a developer and incubator of scalable solutions for smallholder farmers in low-income countries and emerging markets. Earlier in his career he was a development economist and trade diplomat in foreign economic affairs in his native Switzerland.

 

Beatrice Petit-Condé

Beatrice Petit-Condé is a Food Science and Technology Expert with a proven track record in designing innovative processes for safe and nutritious food at the interface between science, technology and industrial applications around the world.

She is currently the Sustainability Officer of Bühler Group, a Swiss group whose technologies and machineries touch daily the needs of billions of people, and has over 20 years of research at ETHZ on food material science.

 

Christian Nils Schwab

Executive Director, Integrative Food & Nutrition Centre, EPFL.

After a very diverse career as senior leader in large multinationals (Tetra Pak, Nestlé, Firmenich) and as entrepreneur, living in 7 countries over 4 continents, Christian has joined the EPFL as Executive Director of the Food & Nutrition Centre in January 2019.

In this new capacity, Christian’s mission is to maximize the positive contribution of EPFL in solving some of the most pressing food related challenges facing mankind. To this end, the role of the Food & Nutrition centre is to secure a dynamic interface between the EPFL and the external partners, to stimulate the transfer of technologies and science, and in fine to maximize the positive impact of the school on the society and the environment.

Since February 2020, Christian is also member of the Executive Committee of the Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley.
