At current rates of carbon emissions there are less than seven years of emissions before we breach the 1.5 degree warming target. Globally, around 75% of carbon emissions come from the energy sector. 80% of global energy is produced from fossil fuels. There is a need to rapidly decarbonize the energy sector.

Each country has its own decarbonization challenge and this is the case in Switzerland. In the past the energy production was dependent on nuclear power for the base load and pumped storage hydropower. Water is pumped up the mountain at night when electricity demand is low and generates electricity during the day when demand is high.

In 2017, Switzerland voted in a referendum to withdraw from nuclear power production.  This made it the country with the largest percentage of nuclear generation to take such a decision.

Executives International are delighted to have a panel of experts on the topic of the energy transition to Switzerland.

  • Aurore Amaudruz is Market Director and a member of the Executive Board of Romande Energie. The company’s mission is to decarbonize the Suisse Romande.
  • Antje Kanngiesser is CEO of Alpiq. The company is a leading Swiss electricity producer and energy services provider that is active throughout Europe.
  • Professor Teddy Püttgen is a world-renowned expert on energy. After two webinars we are delighted to host him at an in-person event.
